📅 GRANT CALENDAR

Federal Grants Deadline Calendar 2026

100 upcoming federal grant deadlines — sorted by date. Track NIH, NSF, DOD, USDA, EPA and all major agencies in one place.

ACTIVE DEADLINES: 100 // AGENCIES: 63 // UPDATED: DAILY

Federal grant deadlines are firm. Unlike many competitive processes, missing the submission window for a federal NOFO almost always means waiting a full funding cycle — which can be six months to a year — before the opportunity comes around again. For research institutions, nonprofits, and government agencies that depend on federal funding, maintaining visibility over upcoming deadlines is not optional.

This calendar aggregates every active federal grant opportunity that carries a posted close date, pulled directly from Grants.gov and organized by deadline month. It covers grants from all major agencies — NIH, NSF, DOD, EPA, USDA, HHS, DOE, DOT, and HUD — across every sector and funding type. The data refreshes daily, so newly posted NOFOs with upcoming deadlines appear within 24 hours of publication.

Use this page alongside the 30-day deadline tracker for the most urgent opportunities. Each grant title links to the full detail page including award ceiling, eligibility requirements, and AI-generated program briefing.

About Federal Grant Deadlines

How far in advance should I start a federal grant application?
Most federal grant applications require 4 to 12 weeks of preparation time, depending on the complexity of the program. NIH R01 applications typically require 2 to 3 months of preparation. Simpler program grants may require 4 to 6 weeks. It is advisable to identify your target grant at least 90 days before the close date to allow adequate time for writing, institutional review, and electronic submission via Grants.gov.
Can a federal grant deadline be extended?
Rarely, and only at the discretion of the issuing agency. Extensions are typically granted only due to system outages at Grants.gov or declared federal emergencies. Individual applicants cannot request extensions. If the Grants.gov system experiences a technical disruption on or near a close date, the agency may post an amendment extending the deadline — these updates appear on the original NOFO listing.
What is the difference between the close date and the receipt date?
The close date shown on Grants.gov is the deadline for electronic submission through the Grants.gov portal. Some programs — particularly NIH — use a separate receipt date that governs when applications are accepted for review. Always read the full NOFO carefully: some programs have multiple deadlines covering letters of intent, full applications, and resubmissions. The close dates shown in this calendar reflect the primary Grants.gov submission deadline.
